Bruce’s Story

Bruce Allen’s unwavering determination to help his clients attain financial success stems back to his childhood in Oneida, New York. Oneida was home to silver and china manufacturer, Oneida. The company was named for the Oneida Tribe which owns a large territory around the lake in the city.

“As I was growing up, Oneida had a sense of invulnerability.. to some degree arrogance.. about the risk that was emerging out of Asia,” Bruce recalls.

Offshore competition in stainless steel wiped out Oneida’s core business. The company lost more than $157 million between 2003-2005, was forced to close its manufacturing plants and cut its workforce from 2,500 to 450. Eventually, Oneida was acquired by a private equity firm. For all of the career employees who expected to retire comfortably, the company stock they owned became worthless.

“Watching Oneida disintegrate in front of my eyes, and watching people’s wealth get destroyed, left an indelible imprint on me,” Allen says. “I need to help people understand their finances, identify their priorities and risks and then educate them so they are where they want to be.. where they need to be in the future.”

Bruce admits two of his strengths that he brings to work daily are his ability to listen and empathize.

“I feel it is my professional responsibility to check myself at the door and make sure that I’m really listening to our clients,” Bruce says. “It’s my responsibility and I’m really humbled to be in a role where I can help create brighter futures.”

Bruce has always enjoyed feeling connected to the community where he lives, be it in Oneida NY as a child, Colorado Springs in college, Boulder as a young professional or currently, as a business leader in Denver. Bruce supports many Colorado non-profit organizations, especially those that assist women and children get past struggles and achieve stability.

Bruce’s Qualifications

Bruce’s experience coupled with his genuine compassion for others provide him a unique set of qualifications for working in the financial planning sector.

Bruce refers to himself as a financial advocate and has a long list of experiences and expertise to back that up.

Bruce is an independent Registered Investment Adviser and as such, is required to act as a fiduciary in managing his client’s assets.  As an RIA he is required to act in his client’s best interests and is forbidden from seeking personal benefit at the expense of his client. Not all financial professionals are required to adhere to this fiduciary standard.

Bruce came to Colorado in the 1980s and graduated from Colorado College in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He first thought he wanted to use his passion for advocacy as a prosecutor but shifted gears and set out to help people comprehend and benefit from the world of finance. In 2002, he earned his Certified Investment Management AnalystSM (CIMA®) designation which recognizes high standards and expertise in financial consulting. The CIMA® designation represents the highest level of credibility, integrity, and—most importantly—knowledge.

In September, 2004, Bruce founded Bruce Allen Investments, LLC, after working with RBC Dain Rauscher in Boulder.

As Bruce G. Allen Investments, LLC turns 15 years old, Bruce is humbled to have served hundreds of clients who needed help defining a clear financial strategy that would meet the goals they set for themselves and their families.

Bruce also works with foundations and endowments to help them manage their assets. And in recent years, Bruce has provided his expertise to women-owned business leaders, clients who want to learn about socially responsible investing and those who are preparing to claim their Social Security benefits in order to maximize their retirement income.

Bruce shares his keen insight into the financial markets and trends with the larger Colorado Community as well. He is frequently heard on 850 KOA Radio and appears on local televisions stations, including 9News/KUSA-TV for his featured “Money Monday” segments (add link to that page). Bruce also offers his expertise on national media outlets, including Bloomberg News and Bloomberg Radio.

“I look forward to every single day, offering avenues and strategies that match with my clients’ visions for their financial future,” Bruce says. “I am also grateful for the opportunities to break down a financial story on a media platform so that it resonates with more people. I speak to people like we were having a cup of coffee together and don’t overcomplicate how market swings and trends may or may not affect them.”
